Years_enslaved The number of years the record subject was enslaved.
Ethnic_Group The subdivision in cultural and herditary membership to which the record subject belongs
Modern_Country_of_Origin The name used currently to describe the country from which the record subject was born
Principal_Occupation The job in which the record subject worked the longest
Occupation_2 The secondary job in which the record subject worked
Occupation_3 The third job in which the record subject worked
Principal_Place_Enslaved The location in which the record’s subject resided longest during his or her enslavement
Value The amount for which the record subject reported being bought or sold
Married The marital status of the record subject
Yr_Arrived_CnslteHMS  The year the record subject sought freedom from a British consulate or ship
a_of_Children Number of Children
Reason_for_Manumission  The reason the record subject sought freedom – imputed variable
Result_for_enslaved  The result of the record subject’s bid for freedom – imputed variable
Original_Name An alternative name given by the record subject during the interview
