Project Founder and Editor
ahutsonphotoDr. Alaine Hutson, Professor of Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, TX began this website as a tool for researchers and students interested in the history of slavery in the Islamic World and Indian Ocean. At the moment, its focus is runaway slaves on the Arabian Peninsula in the early 20th century. We welcome information from other time periods on the peninsula and aspire to eventually hold information from the early 19th century through the end of official slavery on the peninsula in 1970.
